Amad Diallo proving his worth for Manchester United

Amad Diallo delivered another impressive performance against Southampton in the Premier League as Manchester United recorded their first away victory of the season.

The Ivorian forward (22) showcased exactly why he is solidifying his claim for the right-wing position at United in the 3-0 win. According to StatMuseFC, Amad created over six chances and maintained a 100% shot accuracy, a feat unmatched by any United player in a Premier League game this decade. As per Stats Zone, Amad also had a 90% pass completion rate with 52 out of 58 successful passes. His ability to keep the ball under pressure and use his technical ability to retain possession in tight spaces helps the team maintain control in games. 

Fans and analysts alike praised Amad’s ability to have both the vision and intelligence to know when to use the ball effectively. As a wide player he also has tempo controlling qualities and good decision making, knowing when to take on his man on the flanks, cut inside or hold the ball up until teammates come into play. He is a threat in ‘one v one’ situations, and undoubtedly has potential to improve even further with goalscoring and from a creativity perspective.

Amad merges the creativity of a playmaker with typical winger’s attributes such as dribbling, close control, and speed. He consistently provides an output and has an impact when it matters, returning two goals and two assists in the last six Premier League games he’s started since last season. 

It has been reported that right wing is still a position Manchester United have been looking to recruit for, however it seems unwise to spend resources in this area when we have now seen that Diallo can perform at such a high level. His performances since the famous FA Cup victory against Liverpool last season have undoubtedly now made him a fan favourite and provided him with more regular game time. Amad has started three of United’s four Premier League fixtures this season and fans are thrilled to see him finally getting the opportunities he deserves.
